Our New CICU: Enhancements Enable Even Better Care
The Heart Institute at Cincinnati Children’s is the home of the Midwest’s largest comprehensive Cardiac Intensive Care Unit (CICU), and soon they’ll have a new home in our new Critical Care Building (CCB) opening on November 6.
The CICU takes on the most complex heart patients in the world. The new facility features state-of-the-art upgrades, including overhead procedure equipment that rotates 360 degrees and will allow staff to increase quality of care and positively impact patient outcomes.
Thanks to input from employees, patients and families, CICU patient rooms have enhanced privacy features that allow staff to empty trash, refill supplies and observe patients without disturbing or interrupting families. Rooms will also be larger, have more storage and provide families more spots to place pictures and other keepsakes to give families a sense of home.
The CCB CICU will also offer:
Lounges in every wing of the unit.
Quiet/Consult rooms allow for family privacy during sensitive conversations.
Laundry facilities.
In-room telemedicine.
Embedded OT/PT/ST and child life for convenient access to essential services.
Natural light throughout the unit (including the cardiothoracic operating room) that will lift the mood of patients, families and staff.
